Youth Sports Intern (Advocate)

The YMCA of Rock River Valley is seeking a passionate and motivated Youth Sports Intern to assist in implementing and managing our NHL Street Hockey program and youth sports tournament(s). This internship provides hands-on experience in sports program development, event coordination, marketing, and community engagement. The intern will work closely with the Youth Sports program staff and directors to ensure successful execution of both programs. Key Responsibilities: Program Development & Execution: Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing the NHL Street Hockey program and the Annual Campaign Dodgeball Tournament(s). Marketing & Promotion: Help develop promotional materials, social media content, and marketing strategies to increase program awareness and registration. Volunteer Recruitment & Coordination: Assist in recruiting and training volunteer coaches and officials to support program operations. Participant & Community Engagement: Build relationships with participants, parents, and community partners to foster excitement and long-term engagement. Event Operations: Organize equipment, schedules, and logistics to ensure smooth execution of league play and tournament activities. Registration Management: Assist with participant registration, answer inquiries, and track attendance. Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with YMCA staff and program directors to uphold the mission and values of the YMCA. Qualifications: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Marketing, Education, or a related field. Passion for youth development, sports programming, and community engagement. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team. Experience in sports coaching, event planning, or marketing is a plus. CPR & First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Internship Details: Commitment: 10-15 hours per week (flexible based on program needs). Location: Good Shepherd YMCA (with potential off-site event locations). Compensation: Unpaid (academic credit available). This is a great opportunity for students or recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in youth sports management, event planning, and nonprofit operations while making a positive impact in the community!
